International Partnership - European Trolleys in Mexico
In 2013 DESCH added a Mexican owned bus OEM as a client and completed several market research studies on their behalf. Soon after DESCH was asked to support a new undertaking for them, the development and introduction of a new electric drive trolleybus, powered from overhead wires or an on-board diesel genset. While common in Europe and used throughout Central and South America, the buses to be replaced were more than 20 years old, and parts were obsolete.
The buses were to be Mexican produced, while the power train would be European. The Mexican OEM had no EV experience. DESCH would provide the expertise and engineering project management.
DESCH helped the client evaluate and choose the final power train supplier, and acted as the main conduit between the vendor and the client, translating most information either verbally or in writing. Working from the Mexican facility, DESCH managed the client's engineering team to complete designs to the vendor's requirements and assist in translation of training materials and documentation to Spanish. DESCH acted as the project manager for the prototype build, coordinating the vendor's on-site team and their Mexican counterparts and insuring all customer, vendor, and OEM requirements were satisfied.
At the same time DESCH developed the client's multiplex and supervisory controller, and trained their team on CAN and J1939 technologies.
By 2015, twenty-four of the vehicles were successfully built and deployed in Guadalajara.
